I have survived a day and a half in Ireland! It's no small feat considering that I might be at high risk for starvation here... There are a lot of contributing factors involved. First of all, I was only allowed to budget the very bare minimum for food so if I eat the things I want to eat I will likely run out of money. Secondly, the whole vegan thing doesn't really go with the Irish lifestyle. So far everything that doesn't have meat in it has been covered in cheese and/or cream... Teresa, the kooky old woman running the B&B nearly died when I told her that I wouldn't be wanting any meat for breakfast in the morning and I seriously did some damage when I added that I also didn't want eggs. I could have ventured to add that I don't eat dairy either, but I do have to stay with this woman for three more days and I really didn't want her to throw me out.
I forgot to mention something very important yesterday, and that is that the first car I saw when I stepped out of the airport yesterday morning was a Toyota Yaris! I took this as a good sign. Yarises (Yari? Yares?) have four doors in Ireland though...I'm jealous. There are also some really funny little Fords driving around that are about the size of Smart Cars, I'll try to get a picture of soon.
I have run out of things to do in Ennis. Hopefully tomorrow and Sunday will be a little more interesting because there will be more going on with the Fleadh. I was able to get a ticket to one of the concerts that I thought was sold out for tonight, and the box office lady assured me there is lots of dancing in the show...so...hooray.
I bought an umbrella.

Hi Katie- Will you be traveling solo/with a group? When I was there for school I worked in the Dunraven Arms Hotel in Adare, Limerick- very pretty town & manor there. I also spent a few weeks in culinary school in Cork City, which I liked very much- might be more your speed! Can't wait to read all about your adventures. Good luck with the adjustment over there- you will probably have to slow your pace significantly. Mara
Ennis makes clear why you wouldn't want to do junior year abroad at St. Andrew's. Now you know why so many Scots and Irish emigrated so willingly.
Big news about St. Mary's lacrosse in an e-mail
Do the Irish have and equivalent of haggis?
Why haven't you posted photos? In two days in Italy I have taken 184 photos. How 'bout you?
good luck with vegetarianism. Are there many Indian restaurants/shops in Ireland, like there are in England?
