Still in Ennis...

So I see that everything is closed on Sundays...luckily not the internet cafe...also, taxis cost like twice as much. At least it's not raining.

Yesterday picked up a bit, there was a lot more going on with the festival, street performances etc. Today there is going to be a parade...I have high hopes.

Yesterday I also walked outside of town to this community center where I had heard this Set dancing competition was going on. This is a more traditional style of group dancing that we don't really have in the the USA, so I even with all of my years of Irish dancing I had never seen much of it before. It was very cool to see, but I was definitely the only person there watching who wasn't someone's parent. When I got there the Under 10 and Under 12 age groups were performing and they were extremely adorable, but I felt pretty creepy standing all alone taking pictures of other people's children... I got some really cute shots though.

As it turns out, that very expensive surge protector that I bought for my computer is "Model 2: for Eastern European plugs" Thus, it does not fit in Irish outlets... pity.

Last night Western Ireland beat France in a very important rugby match so I'm told.

Yeah, I had bought a "continental europe" plug adaptor before I left, only to learn that Italy does not use the same type of outlets as the rest of the continent. Luckily my apartment had an Italy-Europe adaptor here, so I've got my American electronics plugged into 2 adaptors plugged into the wall. i keep expecting sparks and flames and my computer to be fried.

yesterday a brilliant yellow goldfinch showed up at the feeder. Very small, probably had made its maiden flight only recently. Then a second. Within minutes there were 8 of them. Very cute. By the time I got my camera they had spooked. But clearly they like the free feed.

From time to time a very small squirrel joins in. He's cute too, but scares the birds off. I turned Oscar loose one day to chase him off. The squirrel was so small and slow that Oscar caught up with him. He looked down at the squirrel between his front legs; the squirrel looked up as Oscar. Game over. The squirrel ran off and Oscar stood there watching trying to figure out, now what?

Today we had a raven out there about the size of those at the Tower of London. All other birds had to wait their turns.
